慶田窯は、島津家お抱えの「藩御庭焼」の流れを受け継ぎ、明治時代から続く非常に格式高い名窯として知られています。
本作の一番の見どころは、蓋に施された息をのむような「二重透彫（細密透かし彫り）」です。二重に細工が重なる立体的な幾何学籠目模様は、高い技術を持つ限られた職人にしか作れない、まさに超絶技巧の結晶と言えます。
上品な象牙色の白薩摩の肌には、薩摩焼の象徴である細かな「貫入（かんにゅう）」が美しく均一に広がり、胴部には高貴な「鳳凰文」が絢爛豪華な金彩色絵によって生き生きと描かれています。足元は三足仕様となっており、細部に至るまで妥協のない気品あふれる佇まいです。
共箱（木箱）の蓋裏には「薩摩焼 慶田造」の墨書と朱印、香炉本体の底部にも金彩の高級感漂う作銘（花押）が刻まれており、由緒ある本物であることを保証します。
